The Office of French-language Co-ordination (OFLC)
provides a translation service in French and English
for provincial government departments and agencies.
We also offer linguistic support, such as terminology
searches and revision of documents prepared in French
by provincial government officials. We can also ensure
quality control in the publication of French-language
materials.
Requesting a translation
Departments and agencies of the Saskatchewan government
may request a translation by mail, phone, fax, or
e-mail (attachments in Word or WordPerfect). >>Contact
us with your request
When requesting a translation, please indicate the
language combination, the number of words (if easily
known), the requested deadline, and any special considerations
(such as confidential nature, formatting preferences,
return by e-mail). OFLC staff will advise if
the requested deadline will be difficult to meet and
may suggest other options such as draft versions,
summaries or partial translations.
About half of our translation work is contracted
out to Saskatchewan-based freelance translators. When
documents are rush or confidential, translation is
normally done by OFLC's two in-house translators.
All translated documents are thoroughly reviewed
by OFLC staff before being returned to the client.
Translation requests by the public or non-governmental
organizations
OFLC does not provide translation services
to private-sector companies. Please contact the Association
of Translators and Interpreters of Saskatchewan
for assistance.
If, as an individual or an employee of a non-governmental
organization, you would like to have a provincial
government document translated, you can direct your
request to the provincial department that produced
the document. You may also approach a provincial government
department to sponsor the translation of a document
that your association has produced for, or in cooperation
with, that department.
In both cases, it is up to the department in question
to evaluate your request and to forward it to OFLC
for translation. If you are not sure which department
to contact, OFLC staff would be pleased to assist
you in determining the appropriate one.
